Demonstrating against dumsor was very needless - Dumelo tells Yvonne Nelson

The newly elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has revealed that many doubted his ability to secure the parliamentary seat due to his background in the entertainment industry.

Speaking during an interview on United Showbiz, Dumelo shared how perceptions about his career and the constituency’s demographics posed significant challenges to his campaign.

“Many people didn’t believe I could win the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat because the constituency was filled with the elite,” he remarked.

“They only saw me as an actor. But this journey taught me resilience and proved that failure isn’t the end. If you lose, it becomes an experience—an experience you can use to win the seat next time.”

Dumelo acknowledged the stereotypes he faced but emphasized that perseverance and determination ultimately paid off.

On December 9, 2024, Dumelo, running on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), achieved a decisive victory, unseating incumbent Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dumelo secured 40,561 votes, surpassing Alhassan’s 27,377, marking a significant triumph for the actor-turned-politician.
