The internet got it wrong – Serena Williams reacts to Super Bowl controversy

Serena Williams has set the record straight on her surprise Super Bowl appearance, making it clear that her participation had nothing to do with taking shots at Drake.

The tennis legend was featured in Kendrick Lamar’s performance of Not Like Us—a track widely seen as a diss toward the Canadian rapper, with whom she shares a complicated past.

Following the performance, speculation ran wild, with fans suggesting Williams was subtly throwing shade at Drake. However, she wasted no time shutting down the rumours.

Taking to social media, she addressed the claims head-on: “Gosh I’m so late to the game (I’ve been sick) & busy investing in billion-dollar companies and running @WYNbeauty… def not dancing to be petty lol.”

She went on to remind everyone of her accomplishments, adding, “I think I proved 23 times over (not counting 4 …).”

Her husband, Alexis Ohanian, also stepped in to back her up. He referenced a similar dance Williams did at Wimbledon 13 years ago, pointing out that this isn’t new for her.

According to him, her appearance had a deeper cultural significance beyond the song itself.

Drake, on the other hand, appeared to respond in his own subtle way.

He posted a throwback photo on Instagram featuring himself with Williams’ longtime agent, Jill Smoller—a picture taken at Wimbledon in 2015 when he was there to support her.

Some saw this as his way of addressing the situation without saying a word.
