My father was into juju — Kemi Olunloyo makes explosive claims after ex-governor father dies
Controversial Nigerian journalist Kemi Olunloyo has publicly disassociated herself from the Olunloyo family following the death of her father, former Oyo State Governor Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo.
In a series of emotional posts on Facebook, Kemi revealed that she would not be accepting condolences over her father’s passing on Sunday, April 6, 2025, because of her painful experiences within the family.
“My father, Victor Omololu Olunloyo, is two different people,” she wrote. “He was one person to the world; he was another person to the family.”
According to her, behind the celebrated public figure was a man who damaged their family bond and left deep emotional scars on his children.
“My father destroyed our family unit; my father tortured us as kids. He tortured us emotionally and physically. My father ruined the family unit.”
Kemi went on to dismiss the widespread belief that she was her father’s favourite child, saying that the narrative was deliberately crafted for public consumption.
“My father marketed me as his favourite daughter and child to the world. But I was far from being his favourite. My father used me for a lot of things,” she stated.
She also alleged that her father was heavily involved in traditional spiritual practices, commonly referred to as juju.
“My father was into juju heavily. My father was into occult practices,” she said, adding that after confronting him about it on his 80th birthday, he later turned to Pastor E.A. Adeboye and gave his life to Christ.
Despite everything, Kemi said she had found it within herself to forgive him, but maintained that she was done with the Olunloyo family.
“I have forgiven my Dad for everything he did. But you don’t know what’s going on in my family and I don’t know what’s going on in your family,” she said.
Reflecting on her mother’s experience, Kemi lamented how her father, despite being an intellectual who earned a Ph.D. at 26, became a polygamist in a manner that deeply hurt their family.
“My mother married an intellectual, a man who got his Ph.D. at 26 years old. And he turned into a polygamist. Not that polygamists are not good, but the way it happened to my family,” she added.
For Kemi, her decision is final — she has closed that chapter of her life and wants the world to respect her choice.
