My family warned me, but I didn’t listen – Toyin Abraham opens up on first marriage and finding love again
Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has opened up about her journey through heartbreak, healing, and rediscovering love in a deeply personal interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.
Reflecting on her failed first marriage to actor Adeniyi Johnson, Toyin admitted she went against divine warnings and family counsel at the time.
“My family actually prayed and got signs that it wouldn’t work. But I didn’t listen. I went ahead,” she revealed.
The actress, known for her powerful performances and candid nature, shared that the experience taught her hard but necessary lessons.
Despite the emotional toll, it paved the way for something better — her current marriage to actor Kolawole Ajeyemi, whom she now describes with admiration and peace.
Speaking about her husband, Toyin said:
“In real life, he is very calm. He is a prayer warrior. Whenever I go to Abeokuta, he is always there.”
She also revealed how their relationship quietly blossomed before becoming public.
“I didn’t want anyone to know at first, but I started getting fond of him. I’d tag along when he was going to work. Then we introduced ourselves to our families, I got pregnant, and marriage followed.”
Toyin emphasized the role of faith and divine guidance in her second marriage.
“I come from a Christian home, so my family prayed and God confirmed he was the one. Trust me, I married one of the best. I won’t say the best because there are other marriages I admire, like my godmother’s, but my husband is definitely one of the best.”
