Former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong insists the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could have avoided its “humiliating” 2024 election loss had it heeded his warnings.

In a Pan African Television interview, Agyapong dismissed claims that his critiques aided the National Democratic Congress (NDC), arguing instead that the opposition weaponized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s own statements against the party.

“They used Bawumia’s words—not mine—against us. When did I say, ‘When the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you’? Or claim the dollar was ‘under lock and key’?” Agyapong challenged, referencing NDC campaign ads. He contended the NPP’s “unfair” treatment of him blinded the party to voter discontent: “The whole machinery was against Kennedy Agyapong. Ghanaians decided to remove us as early as 2022.”

The former lawmaker also cited then-Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah’s pre-election picketing as evidence of systemic dissatisfaction. While acknowledging internal blame toward him, Agyapong framed his stance as prophetic: “My cautions were ignored. Now, I leave it to God.” His remarks deepen NPP post-election introspection amid ongoing recriminations.
