The crew chose me, not the producers — Kafui Dey on landing ‘Who wants to be rich’ hosting duties
Kafui Dey recounted how he became the host of Who Wants to Be Rich Africa, crediting his selection to how he treated the production crew.
“Both of us were equally good presenters, but the crew voted overwhelmingly for me. They liked the way I would check in with the camera guys, talk to producers, and get involved. No airs, no divas,” he said in on Max TV as monitored by MyNewsGh.
Dey described the journey as one of preparation and perseverance. Despite being rejected by TV3, he kept honing his skills.
“Don’t shout when you’re going through a process. When you win, you can talk. But during the process, keep quiet and be good enough.”
Reflecting on his departure from GTV, Dey noted, “My time was up. There’s always a time for everything, and when your time is up, it’s up. Nothing will happen if you try to force it.”
He also emphasized the lessons from his parents on respect and human connection, which shaped his approach in media.
“When my father passed, people I didn’t know came to tell me he remembered them, greeted them, and treated everyone with respect.
“That’s how you leave a mark, and that’s how I try to approach work.”
