Nobody checked on me Doris Ogala slams Nollywood’s silence
Doris Ogala has used Angela Okorie’s arrest to highlight what she describes as a lack of emotional support within the Nollywood industry.
In a Instagram video, the actress reflected on her own difficult experiences and how few people stood by her during tough times. “When I had my issues, nobody checked on me,” she said. “Nobody asked if I was okay.”
According to Ogala, only a handful of colleagues reached out to her when she was struggling. She mentioned Richard Daniels and Chie Gyalisigwe as people who offered encouragement. “Apart from them, the rest kept quiet,” she said.
The actress said this pattern has repeated itself with Angela’s situation. “Now that Angela has been arrested, nobody is speaking up,” she noted. “Everybody is quiet.”
Ogala warned that silence during crises can worsen emotional pain. “You don’t know what someone is feeling,” she said. “You don’t know if they are close to breaking.”
She stressed that disagreements should not erase empathy. “Yes, Angela calls people out. Yes, she did Mercy dirty,” Ogala admitted. “But that doesn’t mean she should be abandoned.”
Addressing her colleagues directly, she said, “When trouble happens to one person, all of you pretend it doesn’t concern you. That is not right.”
Ogala encouraged Nollywood practitioners to be more supportive of one another, especially during difficult moments. “At least check on people,” she said. “Mental health matters.”
