He's teaching me how to run showbiz

Ghanaian dancehall powerhouse Shatta Wale has taken to X to express deep gratitude to Jamaican music legend Vybz Kartel.

Sharing a clip of himself inside a luxurious vehicle, Shatta Wale wrote, “Thank you, Vybz Kartel, for not only showing me how to construct dancehall songs but also teaching me how to run showbiz. Guys, please help me say thank you to this great man.”

The heartfelt message comes after a significant moment in his career, his performance at the Freedom Street concert in Kingston, Jamaica, on December 31, 2024.

Shatta Wale was the sole Ghanaian artist officially billed to perform at the event headlined by Vybz Kartel at the National Stadium, marking Kartel’s first major live show in over a decade.

During the Freedom Street concert, Shatta Wale took the stage alongside a star‑studded lineup that included international acts such as Busta Rhymes, Popcaan, Skillibeng, and Spice.

In interviews after the show, he described performing in Jamaica, widely considered the birthplace of dancehall, as a dream come true and compared the experience to winning one of music’s top awards because of the connection to Vybz Kartel and global dancehall culture.

Vybz Kartel, often called the World Boss, has long been an influential figure in dancehall, and his decision to include Shatta Wale on such a high‑profile concert stage highlighted a mutual respect between the two artists.
