Jim Pee reveals how Daddy Lumba discovered and elevated Dada KD

Son of late highlife legend Dada KD, Jim Pee born Gyimah Peterson, has shared an emotional account of how music icon Daddy Lumba played a pivotal role in transforming his father into a superstar.

Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi monitored by MyNewsGh.com, JIM PEE recounted the story of how a single song changed the course of his father’s life.

Setting the background to the life-changing moment, he explained that his father had already released a song that was gaining attention. It was during that period that fate intervened.

“My father released a song and Daddy Lumba heard it on TV. Then he came to look for my father at Ashtown,” JIM PEE revealed.

According to him, that meeting in Ashtown marked the beginning of a powerful friendship and professional bond that would define his father’s career.

Describing the closeness between the two musicians, he added, “It was there that they became friends. Uncle Charles, that’s how he called Daddy Lumba, liked my father and even was the one who took him to Accra for the first time.”

That introduction to Accra, Ghana’s music hub, proved to be a major turning point. With Daddy Lumba’s mentorship and support, Dada KD’s talent found a wider audience, eventually cementing his place in Ghana’s highlife history.

Despite the strong bond between his father and Daddy Lumba, JIM PEE admitted that he never had the opportunity to personally interact with the highlife legend.

Reflecting on that missed moment, he said, “I never got to meet Daddy Lumba in person. I had seen him before, but it was from afar.”

He recalled one vivid memory that has stayed with him over the years.

“It was a show at the National Theatre. That was a very long time ago,” he added, referencing a performance at the National Theatre of Ghana.
