GPL February Coach of the Month Award: A case for Vladislav Viric
Samuel Boadu, Vladislav Viric and Abu Abdul-Hanan have been named as shortlisted candidates for the Ghana Premier League Nasco Coach of the Month for February.
The three coaches have been nominated as a result of them masterminding their teams’ impressive performances during the month under review.
In this piece, FMIG tries to explain why Vladislav Viric, who has made a dream start to life at Dreams FC deserves the award.
41 year old Serbian Coach, Vladislav Viric is one of the few tacticians to have made an instant impact at their clubs in the Ghana Premier League currently. Since taking over the reins at Dreams FC, there has been a quick turnaround in the club’s fortunes on the pitch.
Dreams FC, under Viric lead the form table in the Premier League with the last ten matches played in focus. Since taking over in January, no league side has amassed more points in ten games than Viric, a record he shares with now Hearts of Oak Coach Samuel Boadu (previously at Medeama SC).
He’s amassed 20 points since he took charge with 12 of them coming in the month of February. Viric engineered victories for the ‘Still Believe’ over the likes of WAFA, Eleven Wonders, Aduana Stars and AshantiGold SC.
They started Frbuary with a comfortable 3 nil home win against WAFA before following it up with back to back wins against Eleven Wonders (away) and Aduana Stars at home.
Their run of three consecutive wins was halted though in their next game; a narrow defeat to Berekum Chelsea away.
They however bounced back to complete February with another home win; this time in a 4-1 result against AshantiGold SC.
Overall, Dreams FC won 3 home games and won one away out of five games. They were unable to stay unbeaten throughout this period but their points buildup saw them rise to within 4 points off top spot.
Before Viric, they languished in the lowly places with 7 points from their first 7 games.
The reversal in fortunes most especially in the second month of the year has been made possible courtesy the tactical nous of Coach Viric and certainly is worthy of winning the GPL Coach of the Month of February to crown everything off.
