FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers: Benin and Mozambique advance to next round
Benin beat Niger (7-1) on Saturday at the Charles de Gaulle stadium in Porto-Novo, to qualify for the second round of the qualifiers for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Costa Rica 2022. This victory happened two weeks after a very convincing success in Niamey in the first leg (1-6).
Abdoulaye Ouzérou’s players chained to a second consecutive victory against Niger in their second leg of the first round of the qualifiers. They won the match 7-1, thanks to goals from Eunice Sagbohan (3′), Bernice Inonnabi (31′), Marguerite Semedeton Ahouassou from the penalty spot in the 45th minute, Djidjoho Joëlle Élisabeth Kpadonou (56′), Kpenagni Urisse Erudice Kounasso (75′) and a brace from Edwige Kedokpo (11′ and 65′). Naïma Al Moustapha Hanjar closed the gap for Niger three minutes after the break (48′).
With an aggregate 13-2 win, the Benin women’s U-20 team easily advance to the second round of the qualifiers for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and will face Morocco next September.
Meanwhile, in Matola, Mozambique secured their ticket to the next round by beating Eswatini. First-half goals from Elsa Mulingandale (20 ‘) and Nadia Jacinto (35’) sealed the Mozambican victory (2-0 on aggregate). In the first leg, the two teams separated with a goalless draw.
Three more rounds will be played, and only two nations will represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Costa Rica 2022.
