Libyan national team return to action after seven-year FIFA ban

Under the direction of its Spanish coach, Javier Clemente, the Libyan national soccer team practiced for the first time at the Benina Martyrs Stadium on the outskirts of Benghazi.

Clemente was appointed Lybian manager in June, succeeding Montenegrin Zoran Filipovic.

Clemente is on his second spell as Lybian manager, having previously led the squad from 2013 to 2016, at which time they won the 2014 African Nations Championship in South Africa.

Libya is ready for the first round of the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, with Egypt and Angola rounding out the group.

They will play Gabon on Wednesday at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi in their first official international match on home soil in more than 7 years, following a FIFA suspension.
