A newborn baby dumped in a public toilet at Ashongman, in the early hours of Friday, October 23, 2020, has been rescued.
Residents say the baby, a day-old child with her umbilical cord and placenta still attached to the body was found at about 5 am this morning by a resident at the public place of convenience which was no longer in use.
A birth attendant in the area was subsequently, contacted and helped cut the umbilical cord and dressed the baby.

United Television’s Midday News report said the child was well and has since been taken to Taifa Polyclinic for further examination.
Speaking to the news team, a resident who first found the baby said “I wake up at 5 am to go to work but I decided to visit the place of convenient before I go. When I got there, I saw the baby so called my wife who in turn called the birth attendance and others to help”, he spoke in the Twi dialect.
“I was in the house this morning and I was called to come and have a look at something, when I came they had already taken the baby out of the toilet so I took the baby, bath, and dressed the baby,” the birth attendant said.
According to her, the child was doing well but would, however, be taken to the hospital for examination to forestall any infections due to insect bites it sustained while in the toilet.
She indicated that they would help raise the child and call for support to provide the child the needed help every child deserves.
Others who spoke to the news team, called on all to be vigilant in their communities to assist identify persons who engage in these disheartening practices.
