Money found in accident vehicle of dead police officer not bribe: MTTD Commander says

The Western Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Commander, Isaac Kwesi Sorkpah confirmed the death of a teenager through an accident involving a speeding police officer on Sunday, April 4, 2021.
The deadly accident occurred on the main Anaji to Nkroful highway in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region. The police officer whose name has been given as Owusu was driving at a top speed when he lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road.
He killed a twelve-year-old young girl who was hawking by the roadside and his unregistered Toyota vehicle caught fire in the process.
The vehicle burned beyond repairs whilst he sustained serious burns on parts of his body. After weeks of going through treatment at the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital, the police officer was also pronounced dead.
One thing that onlookers found in his vehicle was money. They concluded that the undisclosed amount of money was proceeds from bribes he had taken on the day of the accident. They brought the half-burnt money out of the vehicle and started circulating on social media. But the police have provided an update on the issue.
Superintendent Isaac Kwesi Sorkpa has indicated in an interview with Skyy Power FM that they have concluded their investigations into the matter and it has proven that the money in the vehicle of the deceased police officer was not proceeds from bribe as many have been made to believe.
According to him, the officer went to the bank on the day of the accident and withdrew some money. It was that money he was carrying when the accident occurred.
On what would have happened to the officer after killing a young girl, the Police Commander indicated he committed a huge offence and would have been jailed for not less than five years.
He admitted that the police officer was driving recklessly and that led to the killing of the little girl and himself. Superintendent Isaac Kwesi Sorkpa assures that nobody will be spared when they go against road traffic regulations and police officers are not excluded.
