Special Voting Underway

Vida Essel-LampteySpecial Voting, an early voting exercise reserved for personnel who will perform one duty or the other during the December 7, elections is currently underway today, December 1, 2020.
The exercise covering a total, 109,557 people, from the various security services, the media, and staff of the Electoral Commission are ongoing in about 38,000 polling centers in all 275 Constituencies across the country.
The security services comprise of the Police Service, Armed Forces, Prison Service, National Fire Service, Immigration Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, National Intelligence Bureau, and the National Ambulance Service.
The Voting Process
TV3 report said the exercise begun across all centers as early as 7 am, Tuesday morning with scores of voters already done casting their vote.
Many others were also in queues waiting for their turn to cast their ballot.
Generally, at all centers visited by the media house, the process had taken off smoothly and peacefully, with all COVID-19 precautionary measures strictly in place.
Jean Mensa on Special Voting
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Ms. Jean Mensa in a press conference on Monday, November 30, said the commission was expecting a voter turn-out of near 100 % in today’s exercise.
“As a Commission, we expect 100 percent turn-out. We expect it to be peaceful, credible, and transparent,” she said.
“In total, 109,557 people, made up of security persons, media people, and staff of the EC, applied to take part in the exercise in the 275 constituencies. It is instructive to note that this is the highest number the commission has recorded for special voting in its history,” she said.
The exercise is expected to end at 5 pm today.
