Openly declaring support for John Boadu defeats your call for unity – Abraham Boadi to Wontumi.
Former Presiding Member of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Mr. Abraham Boadi has questioned the approach of Ashanti Regional Chairman of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi to call for unity among party members in the region when he has declared his support for Mr. John Boadu as the idle general secretary for the party and therefore must be elected.
His assertion followed after the chairman openly declared his support for Mr. John Boadu in the party’s quest for national executives adding that, the chairman has violated his promise to strife for unity after endorsing the candidature of Mr. John Boadu.
“How can you call for unity when you declared your support for John Boadu? You recently called for unity, but you were in public declaring your support for Mr. John Boadu, and I described this as a cosmetic unity which I don’t believe that,” he questioned.
Mr. Abraham Boadi who is known in the political terrain as Opooma said, Chairman Wontumi has earlier on made a promise to remain unprejudiced in ensuring unity and therefore entreated candidates to campaign peacefully to avert conflicts that would have hindered the unity among party members in the race to elect national executives.
According to Mr. Boadi, the support base for Chairman Wontumi among the people in the business fraternity in the region has eventually decreased explaining that, the admiring status of Chairman Wontumi in the past eight years has fast fell into a ditch.
He has however recognized the effort of Wontumi to silent some prominent political opponent in National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region crediting other NPP members that helped the chairman achieve this but this people have redrawn their support for the chairman.
“Chairman Wontumi was a mover and shaker of Ashanti Region. I must be honest. He has held to ramson some political opponent notably Kwadwo Bonsu, Yamoah Ponko in NDC. He has achieved this through the support of some party members, but where are these supporters?’’
He suggested that, delegates should be allowed to freely make their choices in the election of national executive without any influence basically on the regional location of candidates as purported by the regional chairman in his support for John Boadu who is a clear native of Ashanti Region.
He said: “I will plead with the chairman to revise and apologize to the support for his support for Mr. John Boadu and promise to the region that, he will remain unbiased to call for unity else I will not trust him”
