The Member of Parliament for Builsa South Constituency, Dr Clement Apaak has revealed in details plan executed by the National Democratic Congress(NDC) in Parliament on January 7, prior to the swearing-in of the 8th Parliament.
According to him, the NDC did not just go into the house but went with a well thought through strategy which they executed.
“Truth to be told, you know in politics you must have a strategy, you must have a plan, persons must be able to be assign responsibilities and you expect them to execute, we didn’t just walk in there for nothing, we knew what we were doing,” he said.
The NDC MP made the revelation in an interview on PanAfrican TV’s HOT NEWS programme aired on Monday, January 11, and monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
He explained some of the plans executed with the help of the leadership of the party were the busing of all the 137 NDC MPs to parliament, taking over the majority seat, preventing the NPP from reducing their numbers in parliament at all cost and most importantly ensuring that the Speaker came from the NDC.
“So if they don’t have majority and we don’t have majority, so first come first served, we enter the chamber first, so we go and sit on the right, is as simple as that. We didn’t go there as individuals, we were also organized, our leaders were there to guide us and pep talk us and give us the needed direction.
He explained their investigations revealed the New Patriotic Party(NPP) had put in place schemes to deprived them of their numbers on the day hence their decision to go into the house with the strategy.
“And that was why a conscious decision was made that we will get there earlier and to beat all the other plans they had put in place, so our leadership rightly so had instructed as that nobody should go there in your own private vehicle, buses were mobilized for us to go there in the form of a team, so we want there all 137 of us move there in unison and took our rightful place that was the first execution from the series of plans we had in place” he said.
Dr Apaak again revealed prior to going into the house, the NDC MPs were schooled on the need to act in the interest of the party or regret it for the rest of their stay in the 8th Parliament.
“Make no mistake, We were also camped, we were talked to, we were made to understand what was at stake, the issue of party loyalty was made bare, we were made aware that if we fail to deliver a minimum of 137votes, we will not only be disappointing ourselves but we will be disappointing Ghanaians, ” Dr Apaak emphasized.
