The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has finally taking responsibility for the economic hardships in the country.
Speaking at Otec FM on Monday, October 17 as part of his tour in the Ashanti Region, he said “I am the leader and I take responsibility”.
His admission not withstanding the President said, external factors cannot be over looked.
Economic hardships under Akufo-Addo
Ghana is currently at a cross road financially making life difficult for citizens at large.
Harsh economic conditions, rising cost of living, high prices of petroleum products and it ripple effect on goods and services have become a source of worry for many as there seem to be no end in sight any time soon.
To make matters worse, the country’s currency, the Cedi has seen over 60% depreciation since the beginning of the year.
As at this morning, it is trading around ₵12 against the US dollars.
There have been several calls to the President to take responsibility for the challenges as that will mean a beginning to addressing the challenges.
But nothing has been heard of him and his appointees in that regards other than blaming the challenges on the COVID-19 pandemic which hit the world late 2019 and in Ghana in March 2020.
They have also blamed it on the Russian-Ukraine war which began in February this year.
3news.com report, speaking at the FM station today, the President said he was optimist the International Monetary Fund(IMF) programme, the country is currently seeking will help the economy return to normalcy.
“I hope the IMF support is concluded in the middle of November so we can feed it into our budget” Akufo-Addo said.
“My hope is to take Ghana out of IMF bemire when I finish my term,” he added.
