Matilda Amissah-Arthur calls out chiefs in Western Region over galamsey – Skyy Power FM
The former Second Lady of Ghana, Madam Matilda Amissah Arthur, calls on the chiefs, clergymen and the media in the Western Region to take action and use their platforms to advocate for development in the Region.
Madam Amissah Arthur speaking at the Western Regional Development Forum on the theme “Driving inclusive and equitable development in the Western Region: A call to action organised by the Nana Kwabena Nketsia IV Trust questioned the integrity of these institutions and how their actions are contributing to development in the region.
She said as the custodians of the land it is the responsibility of the chiefs and queenmothers to safeguard the future of the Western Region by protecting the lands and its resources, the clergymen speaking the truth.
She said, “They say the chiefs and queenmothers have sold our lands to illegal miners, they take huge sums of money for this, yet we don’t see the money reflecting in their lives. The clergymen are all about prophesying to the people for money but are mute on social issues.”
She also called on the media to highlight the important issues in our society and be circumspect in their reportage.
“The media are all about making headlines and twisting our opinions, that is their focus now and not focusing on development in the region and how best we can develop our land.”
The Western Regional Minister, Dr Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah speaking at the forum said if there will be prosperity in the region, the people must own the productive assets and not just the natural resources.
