John Mahama Pledges to Prioritize Patriotism in Next Government Appointments
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to prioritize patriotism when appointing officials to his administration if the party secures victory in the 2024 elections.
Speaking at the 10th Public Lecture at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi on Saturday, Mahama emphasized the importance of choosing individuals who place the love of Ghana above all else, in addition to having the necessary qualifications.
The lecture, held to commemorate the anniversary of the late Dr. Paul Victor Obeng, featured Mahama reflecting on Obeng’s exemplary service to the nation.
Describing Obeng as a paragon of patriotism, Mahama underscored that his dedication to Ghana made him a significant figure and a model for future public servants.
“P.V. Obeng loved Ghana deeply. His commitment was exceptional and served as a significant influence during my presidency.
His patriotism was among his most outstanding attributes and one of the reasons I appointed him,” Mahama said. He further noted that Obeng’s life and service were worth emulating.
Mahama announced his intention to appoint individuals with similar patriotic qualities, stating, “I look forward to appointing many such people like P.V. Obeng, who love Ghana, alongside whatever professional or other qualifications they might have, to my government, starting January 7th, 2025.”
The former President’s remarks reflect his commitment to ensuring that the next administration prioritizes national loyalty and dedication, aiming to build a government that values the country’s interests above all.
