Adina kicks against TGMA ‘Female Artiste of the Year’ category
Multiple award-winning artiste, Adina Thembi has disagreed with Eno Barony’s advocacy for the creation of ‘Female Artiste of the Year’ at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
Adina Thembi told Amansan Krakye on Property FM that she doesn’t want to be the best of women but the overall best that’s why she wouldn’t support a separate category for females.
She remarked “Honestly I feel like the reason why the comparison keeps coming is because the men are more than the women generally in the music industry.
“That’s why most people think that we should create a separate category for females but I don’t want to be the best of women but I want to be the best overall.
“So for me when I see the men doing well it also inspires me to put in my best so that I’ll also get to somewhere just like Ebony won Artiste of the Year though it was a posthumous award,” Adina stated.
“A Gospel musician like Diana Hamilton also won which was nice to see and that is how it should be so I don’t think it’s necessary to separate that kind of category.
I think we should just make it general and it should continue to encourage or empower women to want to do more to be able to rub shoulders with our male counterparts because it is possible,” she opined on the show.
