UK’s Prime Minister, Liz Truss has rendered an unqualified apology following last month mini budget statement which caused uproar across the country.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the BBC’s Political News Editor, Chris Mason, she said she is “sorry for the mistakes that have been made”.
“Ms Truss said she accepted responsibility for going “too far, too fast” and she wanted to “say sorry for the mistakes that have been made,” BBC report said.
According to Ms Truss it would have been completely responsible of her if she had failed to act in the interest of the nation following the uproar that greeted her mini budget statement last month.
“I do think it is the mark of an honest politician who does say ‘yes, I’ve made a mistake. I’ve addressed that mistake. And now we need to deliver for people,’ BBC reported sighted by GhanaPlus.com said.
“It would have been completely irresponsible for me not to act in the national interest in the way I have”, she added.
The report said Ms Truss said “she remains committed to a “low tax, high growth economy” but preserving economic stability was now the “priority””.
“I remain committed to the vision, but we will have to deliver that in a different way,” she was reported to have said.
Her statement comes a day after UK’s new Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt , announced, nearly all the tax cuts announced last month by the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Kwasi Kwarteng in the mini-budget would be scrapped.
BBC report said “In total, £32bn of the £45bn in tax cuts announced at last by month’s mini-budget have now been ditched, including plans to cut the basic rate of income tax from 20p to 19p from April”.
“Cuts to dividend taxes and VAT-free shopping for international tourists have also been scrapped, along with a freeze on alcohol duty rates,” it added.

Mr Kwarteng, Ms Truss first Chancellor of the Exchequer was ousted out of Office on October 14 following public outcry over a mini budget he presented last month.
The budget presented to the UK’s Parliament, announced among other things, 45% additional rate income tax band for those earning more than £150,000 will be scrapped entirely, 40% higher rate, charged on incomes above £50,271, will remain and a cut in the basic rate of income tax from 20% to 19% to April 2023.
He also announced cuts to dividend taxes and VAT-free shopping for international tourists as well as a freeze on alcohol duty rates.
The budget was however, received by heavy backlash across board amidst the ailing performance of the British pound which eventually saw his exit from office.
