Vida Essel-LampteyTwitter has temporarily suspended the account of Donald Trump Jnr over the sharing of misleading and potentially harmful information on his handle.
Mr. Trump Jnr, first son of the United States president, Donald Trump, with his first wife Ivana was reported to have Twittered and shared some misleading information and video about the coronavirus pandemic on his twitter handle late last night.
With the suspension in place, the American businessman and former reality television personality would not be able to access his twitter handle and tweet, share, like, post, or follow others on his handle in the next 12 hours.
Account Temporarily Suspended
“We have temporarily limited some of your account features. What happened? We have determined that this account violated the Twitter rules specifically, for Violating the policy on spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to Covid-19” a message on his twitter reads.
“We understand that during times of crisis and instability, it is difficult to know what to do to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. Under this policy, we require the removal of the content that may pose a risk to people’s health, including content that goes directly against guidance from authoritative sources of global and local public health information,” the statement added.
Donald Trump Jnr Tweet
According to a report by the Independent, the tweet by the Trustee and Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization falsely promoted the drug hydroxychloroquine as a cure for Covid-19.
It was reported that the video shared by him showed people claiming to be doctors, falsely arguing that “you don’t need masks” and that studies showing that the drug may not be effective were “fake science“.
Mr. Trump Jnr, supposedly, shared the post which he captioned “This is a must-watch!!! So different from the narrative that everyone is running with” with his father Donald Trump who also shared it on different platforms on Monday evening.
Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube were said to have been removing the post as and when it was posted in line with their policies to stop the intended spread of misinformation about coronavirus disease.
The suspension comes amid ongoing tensions between his father, Donald Trump and Twitter, over the social media site’s approach to his posts
