UG Ranked Best Tertiary Institution In Ghana, 11th In Africa
The University of Ghana (UG) is the best tertiary institution in Ghana according to the January 2022 Webometrics Rankings and the World Scientific Index for 2022 by the Alper-Doger (AD) Scientific Index.
According to the rankings, the University of Ghana is 11th in Sub-Saharan Africa and 1,121 in the world out of a total of 31,000 higher educational institutions from more than 200 countries.
The 2022 AD Scientific Index, placed more focus on the biophysical sciences and placed the University of Ghana on 15th out of the 2,049 universities in Africa and at 1,704 out of the 14,284 universities surveyed.
Both the Webometrics and the AD Scientific Index rank institutions based on their performance across various standard indicators of excellence.
These include the quality of education, the quality of faculties within an individual university, international collaborations, the number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate Analytics, the total number of research in the Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index, as well as the number of research articles receiving a high number of citations among others.
Ghana
In Ghana, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) followed UG but ranked 18th in Sub-Saharan Africa.
University of Cape Coast (UCC) came third in Ghana but 40th in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) was ranked fourth in Ghana and 72nd in Sub-Saharan Africa with the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) coming fifth in Ghana and 80th in Sub-Sahara Africa.
6. University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), Tarkwa, sixth in Ghana and 117th in Sub-Saharan Africa
7. Kumasi Technical University (KTU), 7th in Ghana and 134th in Africa
8. Ashesi University, 8th in Ghana and 159th in Africa
9. Ho Technical University, 9th in Ghana and 183rd in Africa
10. Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU). 10th in Ghana and 198th in Africa
11. University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS), 11th in Ghana and 216th in Africa.
A statement dated February 14, 2022, signed by the Director of Public Affairs UG, Elizier T. Ameyaw-Buronyah said: “Congratulations on these achievements to Faculty, Graduate Students and all other members of the University community who continue to uplift the presence of the University of Ghana in Ghana, Africa, and the world through their hard work and commitment to academic excellence”, the statement added.
