3 arrested in connection to Dompin-Pepesa disturbance, Chief's house burnt

After a chieftaincy-related conflict in the neighbourhood, Nana Nyonwah Panyin IV, a claimant to the Dompim-Pepesa stool, found his family home in ruins.

Sources claim that a bunch of armed guys went on the rampage, damaging homes and attacking people.

The Dompim-Pepesa Divisional Council previously declared Nathaniel Dekyi, who is posing as Nana Nyowah Panyin IV of Dompim Pepesa, is not a chief.

Mr. Nathaniel Dekyi said that the MP for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, the MCE for the same area, and the Western Regional Minister were impeding his attempts as the “Chief” to put an end to “galamsey” in the region in an interview given to Joy FM on Monday, October 10.

He asserted that these people were also engaged in unauthorized mining nearby.

But in a statement released on Monday, October 10, the Dompim Pepesa Divisional Council stated that it “wants to announce unambiguously that Nathaniel Dekyi is not the Chief of Dompim Pepesa.”

“We entreat the media and the general public to disregard any interview by him as he is not and has never been the Chief of Dompim Pepesa,” Nana Nyarkefole III, Secretary to the Council stated.

According to the Council, Nathaniel Dekyi is actually the person involved in illegal mining because he has sold cocoa fields to illegal miners, in contrast to claims that the local MP and others were engaged in “galamsey” in the community.

“The Council wishes to state on record that the said Nathaniel Dekyi is the Chief architect of illegal mining in Dompim Pepesa.

“Nathaniel Dekyi with his accomplices on video were caught discussing strategies as to how these illegal miners should operate in Dompim Pepesa. It is also part of his strategy to demoralize and thwart the effort of Hon. Mireku Duker, who has dedicated all his time and energy to fight the galamsey menace,” the Council noted in a statement.

Following the Council’s disclosure, some young people in the neighbourhood are said to have attacked the claimant, injuring his bodyguard in the process.

Two of his men were once more attacked at the neighbourhood hospital. One was able to flee, but the other was left in a critical state.

Three people have been detained by the police in connection with the disturbances in the interim.

The suspects, Ibrahim Issah, Atanga Peter, and Asonba Emmanuel, are allegedly among the individuals who went on the attack and attacked the victim with a machete while she was receiving medical care in the hospital.
