6 students of KNUST denied bail for alleged rape

A high Court in Kumasi has denied bail to six students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) over an alleged gang rape.

According to the prosecution the victim was allegedly gang-raped at about 11:30 pm on Sunday 24 July 2022 by her boyfriend and 5 others who are all students of KNUST after she was lured to a location.

The 6 were remanded into police custody after their first appearance at Asokore Mampong District Court.

Since the Court does not have the jurisdiction to grant bail on such a matter, the lawyer for the 6 persons applied for bail at the high court on Wednesday but it was declined.
