Aisha Huang, the leader of an illegal mining operation, was found guilty of mining charges.
The ‘galamsey queen’ was fined GHs48,000 and given a 4-and-a-half-year prison term.
On Monday, December 4, 2023, an Accra High Court made this revelation.
The Chinese national was on trial for conducting an unlicensed mining operation, assisting those involved in mining operations, hiring foreign workers illegally, and entering Ghana with the intent to reenter.
Aisha Huang, meanwhile, maintains that she has never engaged in illicit mining.
State prosecutors, however, have angrily denied the allegation.
On October 12, both parties concluded their legal proceedings, and today was scheduled for the delivery of the judgment.
During today’s hearing, the court granted the prosecution’s request, stating that Aisha had mistreated her invitation.
The suspect allegedly took advantage of her repatriation agreement to return to Ghana, according to the court.
Alfred-Tuah Yeboah, the deputy attorney general, gave the assurance that the prisoner would be deported after her term was served.
