Akufo-Addo accepts Kissi Agyebeng’s nomination as Special Prosecutor

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted the nomination of Mr Kissi Agyebeng as the Special Prosecutor.

A letter dated May 6 and signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin said, the President has referred Mr Agyebeng’s nomination to Parliament for vetting and approval.

“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has accepted the nomination of Mr. Kissi Agyebeng as Special Prosecutor, and has by letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, dated 29th April 2021, sought Parliament’s approval of the appointment,” the letter reads.

According to the letter, the President was hopeful, Parliament would expedite processes for his confirmation to enable him begin his mantle without delays.

“The President is hopeful that Parliament will expedite the confirmation process of Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, so he can assume the position without delay,” a statement signed by Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin said.

Kissi Agyebeng nominated Special Prosecutor

Mr Kissi Agyebeng, a private legal practitioner and criminal law lecturer was nominated by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame on April 26, as the country’s Special Prosecutor, following the resignation of the Mr Martin Amindu, the first appointee to occupy the office established in February, 2018 to fight corruption in the country.

His appointment, a letter dated April 16 and signed by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame announcing his nomination said his selection was in accordance with section 13(3) of Act 959 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017.
