President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is in Guinea’s capital, Conakry, to hold key talks with the military junta.
President Akufo-Addo is in the troubled country in his capacity as the Chair of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
He is to relay to the leader of the National Committee for Reconciliation and Development (NCRD), Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, decisions of the Authority taken at its emergency summit in Accra on Thursday, September 16.
Col. Doumbouya, who led Guinea’s Special Forces in the September 5 subversion of Alpha Condé’s government, welcomed President Akufo-Addo and his entourage to the capital.

The military leadership is expected to be told about the directive to hold fresh elections within six months to return Guinea to constitutional rule.
Members of the junta have been banned from contesting the elections.
They have also been banned from travelling out of Guinea and this has been communicated to the United Nations, African Union, European Union and other bilateral partners.
These were contained in a communiqué issued after the Extraordinary Summit on Thursday.
