‘Alban Bagbin is a liar and should be ashamed of himself’
Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi, Lawyer Andrew Egypa Mecer has responded to the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Bagbin recent statement released on his Facebook page concerning the rejection of the 2021 budget.
According to Mr Mercer, the members in the house during the budget approval was not up to the needed numbers for the vote to have begun with, and the Speaker should have dismissed Parliament when the majority side left the house but the Speaker proceeded with the election.
However, Mr Bagbin has issued a statement on his Facebook page saying, “Please let it be known that there were more than 137 MPs on the Floor when I put the question for the approval or rejection of the Economic Policy and Financial Statement of the government for the 2022 financial year often referred to as the Budget for 2022.
After the rejection of the request by the Minister of Finance to be given more time to consult the expanded leadership of Parliament, one member of the Majority Caucus came to sit on the last row of the seats on the Majority side by the side-door facing the Speaker’s lobby. That took the number of attendants at that moment to 138. So when the question was put by me to the Plenary, the Hon. Gentleman remained silent.”
The vociferous MP who is also Deputy Energy Minister speaking on Skyy Power 93.5FM believes that Alban Sumana Bagbin must be removed as the Speaker at once for superintending over illegalities.
Also, he made it known the ‘mischievous’ statement issued has revealed the dishonest and biased side of the Speaker of Parliament terming him as a liar and should also be ashamed of himself for issuing such a statement.
“I can conclude without fear of contradiction that Mr Speaker is lying through his teeth and he should be ashamed of himself,” Mr Mercer told Kojo Brace on the Headline News.
