Apam Orphanage set to get first-ever library – Skyy Power FM
The Apam Orphanage in the Central Region of Ghana is set to get its first-ever library.
The library which will be commissioned on Saturday, July 8, 2023, was constructed by Madam Terri Johnson of the Beta Alpha Tau Zeta Chapter in East Baltimore County of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Madam Terri Johnson speaking to Skyy News on how he came up with the idea of building a library for the orphanage said, “I came to Ghana in March 2022, on an educational retreat, and during my days off, I had set up to read my book, Body Safety Zones BSZ, to schools and orphanages. I maintained my relationship with Apam Orphanage, made a donation, and became curious if they had a library. I inquired, and they stated they needed a library, so I offered to start one there for the children to have somewhere to gain knowledge and lounge.”
Madam Terri Johnson explained that she named the library after her late great-grandmother, Mrs Rhoda Lee Jones because she was a former sharecropper and taught herself how to read and write from down on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the United States.

She added, “She always looked out for and protected children and naming the library in her honour is a way to continue her legacy of looking out for children.“
Still speaking on the library, Madam Terri Johnson indicated that there is a wide selection of books from African titles such as Things Fall Apart, Red Heifer to Catcher in the Rye, books about famous people such as Dr Martin Luther King to Dr Kwame Nkrumah to religious books by TD Jake’s to Paula White.
Also, she carefully made these selections of books considering the ages of the children at the Apam Orphanage who are 2 to 19 years old.
Meanwhile, she is calling on donors and kind-hearted individuals to donate knowledgeable books to the library.
