Appiatse explosion victims relocated

Victims of the Appiatse explosion have been relocated from their temporal location at the St. Michaels Parish Hall to a more spacious location.

The Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly on Monday, January 24, inaugurated an 11-member committee to manage donations and also the welfare of the Appiatse explosion victims.

The committee would ensure the disbursement of relief items and strategize on how the displaced would be catered for throughout the year.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the committee, Mr Thywill Quarshie told Skyy Power 93.5FM that the victims will be relocated to a more spacious and safer location whereby electricity and a good place of convenience will be available for them.

The location is just about 5 minutes drive from the Appiatse community which was provided to the committee by one of the mining companies in the Western Region.

Also, Dr Isaac Dasamani, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality said in an interview with the media that the committee includes; members of the clergy, five community members including; two females, the MCE and members of the security Agencies.

Dr Dasamani noted that a lot of donations had been received from the government, corporate institutions especially from the mining companies as well as other private individuals, which ought to be managed for the benefit of the victims.

He said plans were also underway to enrol students affected by the disaster in schools of neighbouring communities as the Assembly in collaboration with the Education Directorate was arranging shuttle service to convey the students to the schools.
