Arise Ghana says government should absorb adjusted utility tariffs

A pressure group, Arise Ghana says the government should absorb the adjustment utility tariffs.

The Public Utility Regulation Commission on Monday, August 15 announced a 27 per cent increase in tariff for electricity and a 21 per cent increase in water tariff effective September 1, 2022.

Even though the government says the adjustment is to help improve the services these companies offer to the public, it has also been met with fear and opposition.

At a press conference on Thursday, August 18, in Accra, the convener of Arise Ghana, Benard Monah questioned why the people should suffer due to the inefficiencies of the government.

He said the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) should find a means of collecting their monies from government institutions that owe them before venting their anger on Ghanaians.

He said the government has up to 48 hours to rescind its decision in implementing the increased tariffs.

He added that it will further burden Ghanaians who are suffering due to the economic insolvencies in the country.
