Asiedu Nketia broke his promise to me – Anyidoho

The Chief Executive Officer of the Atta-Mills Institute, Mr Samuel Koku Anyidoho has hinted what seem to be the reason behind the seeming unfriendly relationship between him and his former boss and General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra FM on Tuesday, August 31, monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said, Mr Asiedu Nketia broke his promise to him and cannot look him in the eye.

What Happened

He explained prior to the party’s 2014 congress in the Ashanti Region, Mr Asiedu Nketia promised him that after his tenure ends on his third term as the General Secretary, he would not contest the position again so he, Mr Anyidoho could vie for the position.

That he said was after, he, Mr Anyidoho refused calls from a section of the party to contest Mr Asiedu Nketia in the 2014 congress.

“The story is that prior to the 2014 congress in Kumasi when people wanted me to contest Asiedu Nketia as General Secretary, I refuse, they did everything because there was an agenda to get out Kwabena Adjei, get out Asiedu NKetia, get out Yaw Boateng Djan. There was an agenda to get rid of them and I was contacted to contest Asiedu Nketia and I said I will not do that job. If this people help President Mills to win an election and they have helped President Mahama to win an election again what is our business chasing them out of office. That is when Asiedu Nketia drove to me,” he said.

“ Those days I still had an office at the castle. That time his mother had passed away fresh and he came to thank me that he had heard everything that people wanted to get me to contest him and he had heard everything and he is thankful and he didn’t know I was such a human and he now understand why President Mills loved him so much because it was real to have people who would want to holds on to principles and so he is telling me he will go for the third time and after that he will not go for the fourth time,” he narrated.

However, General Mosquito as affectionately called broke the promise and contested for the fourth time at the same time Mr Anyidoho contested.

He said he didn’t know Mr Asiedu was going to contest, however, at the time he found out, he Mr Anyidoho was not willing to step down since that would have also generated discussions that perhaps he had been bribed to step down.

Despite, what seem to be a betrayal on the part of his senior political colleague, he revealed on the programme, he was not boarded but what he would not permit was the attempt by him to destroy his reputation.

“It was broken so he cannot look at me in the eye today. Like am speaking to you today that you are looking at me, Aseidu Nketia can’t look me in the eyes because he knows that he broke his own promise and I leave him to his conscience but what I will not allow him to dint my image and integrity that one no. You are the one who want to be general secretary for life no problem, go ahead, I don’t have a problem, go ahead, I don’t have a problem with that but to attempt to destroy my image for petty parochial interest. They say Koku Anyidoho is bitter, is bitter if anybody is bitter is Asiedu Nketia because I contested him”.

A letter announcing his expulsion and signed by Mr Asiedu Nketia on July 27 said he was found guilty of misconduct and anti-party behaviour.

“The committee’s report (which is attached for your perusal) found you guilty of the allegations of misconduct and anti party behavior and recommended your outright expulsion from the party” the statement dated July 27 sighted by GhanaPlus.com read.

The Functional Executive Committee (FEC), acting in compliance of article 48(1) of the NDC constitution unanimously adopted the report and accepts full responsibility for your expulsion from the party” .

“You, are, therefore by the decision of FEC expelled from the National Democratic Congress and for that matter, you are no more recognized as a member of the party and cannot carry yourself as such,it added.

No body can push me out of the NDC

However, Mr Anyidoho in an interview with Accra base Okay FM said no body can expel him from the party unless he goes contrary to the party’s constitution, which he said he had never done so.

According to him, nothing he had done in his private capacity as a citizen of the country and also on his social media spaces was in contravention of the party’s constitution as being asserted by the party.

Retract my expulsion or else

He had therefore challenge, the General Secretary to redraw his expulsion letter and set aside the recommendations for his expulsion or face legal actions.

Mr Asiedu Nketia is however, yet to respond to his demands.
