Basic and Senior High Schools in Sekondi-Takoradi sensitized on menstrual hygiene – Skyy Power FM
To mark the World’s Menstrual Health Day, the Touching Lives Of Girls Foundation International have organized a sensitization program for the girl child from various basic and SHS schools across the metropolis.
The program took place today, 26th May 2023 at Archbishop Porter Girls Secondary School.
In a welcome address, the headmistress of Archbishop Porter Girls Secondary School expressed her gratitude to the organizers for choosing her school. She said that her school is much privileged to be chosen from the lots for this event, “we are indeed honored that our school has been chosen as the venue for the celebration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day” she said.
The President of the Touching Lives of Girls Foundation International, Nana Ama Adutwumwaa, shared with the gathering the reason why she established the foundation.
She made it known that due to her not getting the chance to learn about menstrual health she had the inspiration to birth the foundation, “it is something that I am passionate about because myself I had a bad experience which landed me in a hospital for me to go through a very expensive surgery. So after the surgery, I decided to form the foundation”, she explained.
The director for education, EKMA, Mrs. Catherine Biney, the chairperson of the occasion stressed on the fact that menstrual hygiene is very necessary and must be taken seriously by society, “occasions like this help young ladies to educate them on the hygienic way of managing their menstruation”, she stated.
Present at the occasion were Nana Akua Kondu II, Queen Mother of Essikadu, Nana Adjabeng Sarfo, Ahanta traditional area, the director of education for GES EKMA, the PRO for GES EKMA, headmistresses of Archbishop Porter Girls Secondary School, Ahanataman Girls Senior High School and teachers of various invited schools.
This year’s World Menstrual health day falls on, Sunday, 28th May, 2023.
