Mr Atta-Mensah, affectionately called Sammens made the comment in a twitter post sighted by GhanaPlus.com on August 26.

He wrote “I think those who have developed the habit of stealing the newly constructed rail tracks should be charged for attempted murder. How wicked can you be? Cutting rail tracks to sell as scrap? Gyimii”.

Rail theft in Ghana

It is common in Ghana to have rail tracks stolen by scrap dealers who make living out of scraps.

They gather from anywhere and everywhere, the place regardless, as long as they are able to get their scraps to make money.

Carried out mostly in night, the development had also seen almost all metal covers on gutters along major streets in the capital removed.
