Thieves steal 50km railway tracks
His comment was in reaction to report of some nearly 50 kilometres of railway track stolen from the country’s railways across the country.
The theft was said to have occurred on the lines from Ejisu, Konongo, Juaso, Obuasi-Dunkwa-Prestea, Akrokeri, Kaasi, Asafo, Asawase with some estimated $250m lost to the state in the development.
Rail theft in Ghana
It is common in Ghana to have rail tracks stolen by scrap dealers who make living out of scraps.
They gather from anywhere and everywhere, the place regardless, as long as they are able to get their scraps to make money.
Carried out mostly in night, the development had also seen almost all metal covers on gutters along major streets in the capital removed.
