creates Preventive Health Care Unit

A Preventive Health Care Unit has been developed at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital to encourage healthy lifestyle choices and behaviours that would safeguard the region’s residents’ overall wellness and good health.

In order to decrease the need for palliative care and lengthen lives, it is also important to make sure that many people are taught on how to avoid certain behavioural patterns and promptly report medical conditions.

During the second Open Day celebration of the hospital, Dr. Joseph Tambil, Executive Director of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, made this announcement.

The institution had established the Open Day to strengthen relationships with their clients and to promote the Hospital’s services to the broader public in an effort to win support for the facility’s daily service delivery.

This year’s Open Day is on the theme: “Early Detection of Breast Cancer saves Lives”.

The second biggest cause of mortality for women, according to Dr Tambil, is breast cancer, hence it is important to emphasize the importance of early cancer identification.

The hospital has tested more than 1000 patients since January, referring 366 for mammograms and making 32 real diagnoses.

According to him, the condition had frequently been reported when it was at an advanced stage and could only be treated with palliative care, necessitating community awareness and education to urge more women to visit medical facilities on schedule.

He said that in order to better serve clients, the Hospital was also undertaking structural changes. He said, “Our project, when completed in the next three years, would add 500 beds and provide a one-stop-shop for all health care services.”

Dr. Naana Esi Gaisie, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, urged the public to bear with the relocation of certain services to other areas as part of the redevelopment of the hospital.

She said, “we have not closed down the Hospital…We have only moved certain services to new places so let’s bear in mind and cooperate anytime you visit the facility “.

The Open day would be used to provide free medical screenings to the general public.
