Department of Social Welfare takes on case of woman who wanted to murder her kids and commit suicide
The Social Welfare Department of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has taken on the case of a 23-year-old mother who wanted to murder her children and commit suicide in addition.
A pregnant Mame Esi tried to commit suicide and kill her two children on Tuesday, November 1, at Nkroful in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.
According to Maame Esi speaking exclusively to Skyy News, she wanted to suffocate her eldest son and poison the youngest and herself in the process.
Maame Esi said, “My first child is for a different man, my second child is for the current man I am living with, but is not claiming responsibility for my current pregnancy because I confessed to him that his best friend took advantage to have sex with me.”
“I don’t want to have three children from three different men and that is one of the reasons I wanted to commit suicide.”
In the process of doing so, a friend of hers who was visiting chanced on the scene and prevented her from committing the crime.
After narrating her ordeal on Skyy Power FM, workers of the Department of Social Welfare visited her residents who investigate the issue and see the necessary steps to take.
They made three recommendations that would be suitable for Maame Esi’s situation which were, relocation from her current community due to stigma, A DNA test to determine the father of her current pregnancy and putting all the men responsible on child support.”
