Kwesi Pratt Jnr lambast Ghanaian media over Agenda 111 reportage

Ace Journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr has taken a swipe at the Ghanaian media over its reportage on the government agenda 111 hospital projects.

Speaking on Good Morning Africa on Pan Africa TV on Wednesday, August 18, he said the media instead of asking pertinent questions have rather become hype men of the project and quizzed since when did someone’s dream became a significant interventions since independent as being reported by the media.

He noted it was normal for politicians to engage in such  activities but problematic to see the media who ordinarily should know better to be engaging in such.

” I mean yesterday, I read some news paper headlines that this is the most significant intervention in the health sector since independent, who said that, dreams have become interventions?. What is wrong with our country?”

“Look, if the politicians were doing this alone perhaps no problem because people have come to accept that as for this our politicians this is how they behavior but when the whole of society and the media is involve in this hype then there is a problem. Who do you believe now?”.

He expressed worry until today, no single reportage had questioned from where government intend to fund the project expected to be completed within 18month in the face of the country’s financial difficulties.

“I haven’t seen one publication, one broadcast which has pointed out that this sod cutting ceremony happened a year ago and this is a repeat. That is significant information. How many headlines today are telling us that there is no money for the project and that the total amount of money committed for building 111 hospitals is $100m that is far less than 20% of the resources needed to 111 hospitals and yet we are all wallowing in blissful useless propaganda and am asking myself what should we do?,” he said.

“Last year, the minister cut the same sod at the same place if the president cut the same sod this year at the same place for the same project questions have to be raised. The president himself is telling us there is no money for this project shouldn’t we be finding out how the money will be raise,” he quizzed.
