Education Ministry refutes allegations of food shortages in Senior High Schools

The Ministry of Education has denied reports that several Senior High Schools (SHS) will close due to food shortages, notably in the Volta Region, that have appeared in traditional and social media.

According to the Ministry’s checks, enough food supplies have been made to the questioned schools, according to a press release signed by Mr. Kwasi Kwarteng, the ministry’s spokesperson, and copied to the Ghana News Agency.

In the announcement, it was emphasized that the recent disruptions in the food supply chain had been resolved and that all SHSs in the nation had received an adequate supply of food items.

“The Ministry wishes to assure the public of its commitment and willingness in providing quality and timely supply of food to all Senior High Schools,” the statement added.

Some Senior High Schools allegedly had food shortages, according to news reports, and those schools were on the edge of closing.

The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) regional chairpersons, who claimed that schools would be forced to close if the government failed to provide food, were the ones who broke the news.

It stated that until enough food and money were made available to the schools, the Association would send pupils home.

Concerns over this have been expressed by members of the public and stakeholders in the education industry, leading to numerous media discussions.
