The Mawarko food poisoning saga has been linked to contamination by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

According to the FDA, there was a heavy microbial load (pathogens) after analysing food samples and fruit juice taken from the East Legon branch of the Mawarko Branch.
A statement released by the FDA said that samples collected from the Abelenkpe and La branches were also found to be heavily contaminated.
It was further revealed that the temperature of deep freezers and refrigerators was far above its acceptable range and the handling and ingredients and preparation of the food were not hygienic.
“The FDA has applied the appropriate regulatory sanctions and is also monitoring the implementation of the Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) by the management of Marwako Fast Foods to address all the non-conformances identified to prevent any reoccurrence,” it said.
Investigations are still ongoing as the FDA indicated in a statement and said catering services at the facilities remained suspended.
Also, the FDA assured the public that it would continue to closely monitor all activities at Marwako Fast Foods Limited.
