A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Founder of the Dankwa Institute, Mr Gabby Otchere Darko has paid a visit to the former President and 2022 flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama following Monday night brawl in Parliament.
A Facebook post sighted by GhanaPlus.com on Mr Mahama’s page said he received Mr Otchere Darko at his resident on Tuesday, December 21.
The visit was on the request of NPP stalwart.
According to Mr Mahama, they discussed among other things the desire of Ghanaians to see the two major political parties work together for the interest of the nation and ensuring the two result to dialogue in addressing parliamentary issues through consensus.
They also spoke about a possible meeting between the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Mr Mahama in the future.
Akufo-Addo did not seek my intervention on E-Levy – Mahama
Mr Mahama however, indicated the President did not seek his intervention on the proposed electronic transaction levy seeking to impose some 1.75% tax on mobile money transactions above ₵100.
“President Akufo-Addo did not seek my intervention on the E-Levy impasse.
I received Mr. Gabby Otchere Darko, at his request, at my residence on Tuesday 21st December, 2021
Among issues we discussed was the desire of Ghanaians to see the two major political parties working together for the interest of the nation.
We discussed, also, how dialogue can be deployed to ensure Parliamentary issues are agreed consensually before coming on the floor to avoid what happened recently in the House.
We further discussed opening channels of communication between the leaders of the two parties including a possible meeting with the President at a future date.
At no time was there any discussion specifically about the President requiring my intervention in the impasse on the E-levy,” Mr Mahama’s post reads.

Majority, Minority throw blows again
Ghana’s Parliament was on Monday, December 20, night thrown to another chaotic state following a decision by the sit-in Speaker, Mr Joseph Osei Owusu otherwise known as Joe wise to take part in a division to decide whether or not a certificate of urgency should be adopted by the government proposed e-levy.
The night saw members from each side of the house engage in physical fight in the full glare of cameras to the dismay of many Ghanaians.
The pushed, shoved and threw punches at each other on the floor of Parliament.
The fight begun when the Minority attempted to snatch the speaker’s chair to prevent the Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah Amoako from taken the position of Joe Wise following his decision.
