Hotels must invest in sustainable green energy – Minister – Skyy Power FM

The Western Regional Minister, Dr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah is urging Hotels in Ghana to invest in sustainable green energy to help improve their business.
The Minister said this at the Media launch of the 6th Ghana Hotels Association Awards and Hotel Business Forum in Takoradi on the theme, “Sustaining the Hotel Industry in Ghana Post Covid 19,” on Wednesday, August 23.

Dr. Okyere Darko-Mensah said the GHA must urge the hotel industry to invest in sustainable energy as it is cost-effective and safe for the environment as well.
He said, “Hotels cannot be sustainable without using sustainable energy, we all know it is very expensive to use the national grid to operate a hotel, it is time we invest in solar and it is very cost-effective.”
“The cost over time is far cheaper, I know Raybow Hotel used to have problems with the ECG due to the amount of bills they had to pay, but after switching to solar, they are not having those problems again and are only paying about 30% of electricity to ECG.”
The Minister urged the Ghana Hotels Association to help clean up all budget hotels to achieve a quality hotel brand for Ghana.
Dr. Okyere Darko-Mensah said the GHA should put more focus on budget hotels because there are more of them which will help elevate the hotel industry as more tourists are flying into the country each and every day.
He said, “How can you have more budget hotels but the standard for them is very low and not clean as well, even in the biggest slums, there are houses that are very clean. GHA should put their eye on the budget hotels and clean them up.”
