Hundreds turn out for Skyy Annual Blood Donation exercise
On Monday the 7th of March, 22, Skyy Media Group together with its sponsors and supporters organized the 18th edition of its annual blood donation at the Takoradi Mall.
The well-attended event attracted blood donors from as young as 18 years, serial donors and people who were donating for the first time.

Emmanuel Essien, the Blood Organizer at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital described the exercise as generally successful.
Speaking to Skyy News at the sidelines of the event, Mr Essien appreciated Skyy Power FM for their tremendous effort to contribute to the health sector and development of the Western through this program.

According to him, this year’s event was one of the best because the turnout was massive and appreciated the donors as well for their selfless effort.
Also, the serene and calm venue for the exercise was well appreciated by the health officials and donors as they described it as serene and calm.
Background of the program:
This program was necessitated 19 years ago with the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital when the Maternal Mortality rate in the Western Region was at an all-time high.
Skyy Newsroom researched the problem which turned out to be the non-availability of blood, hence the institution of the Skyy Annual Blood Donation campaign.
Not only maternal mortality rate was considered during the progression of the program, but all health issues in the region where blood transfusion was necessary.
This year’s donation will also target the Appiatse victims since there is still a call for blood for the victims who suffered severe injuries.
