It will be high treason if Minority MPs go against Supreme Court ruling
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Shama Constituency, Lawyer Erickson Abakah says it will be high treason if the Minority Members in Parliament go against the Supreme Court ruling.
The Supreme Court in a landmark ruling on Wednesday, March 9, struck down Order 109 (3) of the Standing Orders of Parliament that provides that a Deputy Speaker or any other member of Parliament presiding over the business of the House shall not retain his or her original vote while presiding, describing it as “unconstitutional.”
The apex court declared that a Deputy Speaker of Parliament, or any other member of the Legislature presiding over business of the House, did not lose his or her right to vote, and formed part of the quorum for decision making in the House.
In an interview on the Jolly Breakfast Show on Skyy Power 93.5FM, the MP made it clear that the constitution of the country protects Ghanaians and it will be unlawful which will be described as high treason if the minority acts against the court ruling.
He said, `”The minority has no authority, no moral or legal right to say no if they disagree with the ruling… the best they can do is to appeal the case.”
“If the Supreme Court has ruled on a case and you don’t agree and will act against it… that is a high treason and can be jailed 10 years for such actions.”
