Joe Ghartey declares Intention to run for President
At a meeting of the Expanded Regional Executive Committee of the Western Region of the New Patriotic Party, Hon. Joe Ghartey declared that “I will absolutely contest for the Flag Bearer position for the New Patriotic Party” as long as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, God willing.
On Monday, November 7, 2022, at a meeting held in Sekondi-Takoradi, Joe Ghartey addressed the crowd and mentioned that he had learned that several presidential candidates had already visited the Region to speak with some delegates. Although he promised to meet with them soon, he gave notice that he will unquestionably run in the presidential primary elections.
About five days before the 2020 general election, Takoradi-based radio station Radio 360 interviewed Joe Ghartey. The host questioned him about his intentions to run for office in 2024.
Joe Ghartey, a member of parliament since 2004, stated he would not. When asked if he would like to become president, Joe Ghartey stated he would say yes.
He claimed that when he ran for office in 2012, he finished third behind the President and Alan Kyeremanteng. He also stated that, God willing, he would run for office again.
Asaase Radio then flew a crew from Accra to Takoradi to interview him a few days before the election, Hon. Ghartey told the crowd.
He was asked the identical question by the host, Kojo Mensah, about running for president in 2024, and he replied in the affirmative.
After the election, the President warned the newly elected MPs that he would not include anyone in his government who had indicated that he would run in the presidential primaries, according to Joe Ghartey.
When asked a question, Joe Ghartey claimed a senior Party member advised him to respond with “I’m thinking about it right now.” Joe Ghartey declared to the group that speaking the truth had set him free and that he was not in the business of lying or waffling.
He responded in that manner because he had previously given it some thought. He gave the Region his word that he would undoubtedly return shortly.
The Honorable Ghartey served as Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Attorney General, and Minister of Justice in the past.
