Former President John Dramani Mahama sent a five-member team to lead a prayer ceremony before the body of Syyed Taalay Ahmed, the late British Journalist of London-based MTA News, was flown to London.
The team, which was led by the Member of Parliament for Wa Central Constituency in the Upper West Region, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, was made up of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Organizer of Zongo Caucus Alhaji Mohammed Mamah, Alhaji Mohammed Cole, Alhaji Mustafa Abubakar, Alhaji Yahaya kundow, Alhaji Ashka Steven and Alhaji Imam Sanda, a Former Ambassador.
Syyed Taalay Ahmed met his untimely death in the hands of highway robbers on Monday, August 23, while returning from a documentary shoot in Northern Ghana.
The British journalist was shot and killed by the armed robbers.
The 31-year-old from Hartlepool was working for Muslim Television Ahmadiyaa International (MTA) when his vehicle was ambushed on Monday, August 23.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
At the prayer ceremony before the departure, no government official showed up at the ceremony.
“Regretfully, as seriously and embarrassing the incident of the murder to the image and integration of the Ghanaian security system, no government official showed up at this ceremony”, a statement from the team said.
The team leader, Dr. Pelpuo, conveyed the former president’s deep condolences to the Ahmadiyya Mission and the people of Great Britain for the sad loss.
The Ameer and Leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, on his part, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the Muslim Mission to President Mahama and the NDC for offering to share in their utmost grief.
