Military, civilian brutalities: What is not good for the goose, is also not good for the gander

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Atta-Mills Institute, Mr Samuel Koku Anyidoho has called on Ghanaians to also condemn brutalities meted out to security personnel by civilians in line of duty while doing same on others caused by the military.

Speaking in a twitter post sighted by GhanaPlus.com on Friday, July 2, he said it was right for officers to be condemned over such unprofessional conduct but same must be accorded when they were at the receiving end of the brutalities adding “What is not good for the goose, is also not good for the gander”.

His comment was in reaction to reports, some traders at the Agbobloshie market pelted stones and fired shot at security personnel while a relocation exercise was underway to move them to a new site at Adjen Kotoku in the Ga West municipality in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, July 1, 2021.

Graphic online report, while onion traders complied with the directive, some scrap dealers resisted, arguing they were not served any notice to vacate the place.

“Some pelted stones and fired shots at the security persons to drive them off the area, temporarily creating a chaotic scene. The strong security presence averted any unfortunate incident, as they overpowered the irate traders, who later dispersed,” graphic report said.

Sharing the report, Mr Anyidoho wrote “What is not good for the goose, is also not good for the gander. If we all rightly condemn brutalities meted out to civilians by uniformed personnel, we must also loudly condemn civilians who attack security personnel out of zero provocation. If civilians had died yesterday..”
