Minister hands over power to Reinstated Sekondi-Takoradi Mayor

The Western Regional Minister, Dr Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah has handed over power to the reinstated Sekondi-Takoradi Mayor, Mr Abdul Issah Mumin.

The handing-over ceremony took place this morning at the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly’s (STMA) premises in Sekondi.

The Regional Minister had to occupy the position of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), from Friday, February 4, 2022, after the MCE was suspended for an alleged traffic offence.

Mr Issah Mumin officially resumes his office today, August 31.

Mr Abdul Issah Mumin was suspended from office by the President through the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development in a statement.

It was further indicated that the Mayor had an alleged encounter with a police officer at a checkpoint in Kwesimintsim which he threatened to facilitate the officer’s transfer to Enchi.

The estranged Municipal Chief Executive was charged with three counts after his arrest on Thursday, February 3. The charges were assault of a public officer, offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace and disturbing the peace in a public place contrary to sections 205, 207, and 298 respectively.

He has appeared before the Takoradi Circuit Court A on several occasions as they are yet to make a judgement. He pleaded not guilty on his first appearance and was granted a GHS100,000 bail with three sureties.
