The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) says the Operation Paint Your Building campaign is still in the pipeline.
Speaking on the Jolly Breakfast Show, Mr John Laste revealed that the initiative has reached its final stage and has been approved at all levels which will soon commence.
He said this initiative is for the betterment of both the house owners and the Metropolis and his team is working with paint suppliers to get affordable paints for the landlords to paint their houses.
Mr Laste indicated that the initiative has not been sidelined and is hopeful that it will work out.
This comes after the assembly launched a three-month sensitisation campaign in the month of July 2022, to create awareness of the Operation Paint Your Building Campaign after which enforcement of the bye-law will be intensified.
Paragraph two of the STMA bye-laws on maintenance of premises 2017 states, that a household or owner or occupier of premises within the metropolis shall keep the house clean.
Failure to comply with this directive will compel the assembly to paint such buildings and surcharge the expenses incurred in the exercise to the owners.
Owners who fail to cause the payment or fail to paint their houses will be prosecuted according to the STMA by-laws on maintenance of premises 2017.
The Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah who was then the acting MCE at the formal launch said the campaign is targeted at the entire metropolis, but buildings along the roads are earmarked for reconstruction this year will be considered.
